Two high-capacity mixers are shown below. This style mixer is built
on top of a salvaged rear axle from an old car or truck. First, the
axle assembly is removed from the body and drive train of the vehicle.
A tow frame is welded to the axle, with the differential rotated upward
90 degrees. A 200 gallon water tank is welded on top of the tow frame
centered over the differential. The differential rod is then attached
though a watertight gasket to a lawnmower blade inside the tank. Water
and other ingredients are measured into the tank. Towing the mixer around
the block behind a pickup truck drives the differential, which rapidly
spins the lawnmower blade inside the water tank, quicky pulping the
paper and thoroughly blending in the cement and clay to create the Hybrid
Adobe slurry.
In the photo, we see local
papercrete guru Lex Terry and a friend unloading a second mixer for
a workshop at Slickrock. At this workshop we poured six cubic yards
in a single day.
